Mango
Mango trees are visible in all parts of the Pakistan. But commercial farming is done in Sindh and Pujab. It is known as major fruit crop in Pakistan. Mango fruit has a great scope for export. Pakistan produces 8.5% of worlds mangoes. Being the third largest producer, its export is progressing and resulting in substantial foreign exchange earnings. Total area under fruit cultivation is 853.4 thousand hectares with the production of 7178.8 thousand tones while area under mango cultivation is 167.5 thousand hectares with the production of 1,732 thousand tones being the second major fruit crop of Pakistan. Nature has blessed Pakistan with agro-climatic conditions which permit quality production of mango. Pakistani Mangoes Sindhri, Chaunsa, Dehseri, Langra have high demand all over the world because of its quality. However mango plant and fruit is affected by a variety of insect pests and diseases which require intensive care to produce healthy and good quality fruit. Melon
"Melon is known as the ‘Money maker crop’ of Pakistan. It has a great market in urban cities of the country which gives reasonable returns to the grower. Thatta, Badin and some parts of Mirpurkhas, Bhawalpur, Sahiwal are major Lemon growing regions. Internationally Iran, India, Sri lanka are major melon producers. It maintains its demand worldwide due to health benefits. Melon is usually grown in warm weather conditions with high humidity, optimum temperature is 27-29 degree centigrade. However it is planted in winter and summer both. The summer harvest ranges between 533 and 800 crates (15kg crates) per hectare, while winter crop ranges between 1066 and 1333 crates per hectare. The main reasons for low yield are improper fertilizers application, poor land management and low use of farm yard manure. Common problem of fungus on seeds, insect attacks (Fruit fly, white fly, leaf cutter ) and the most common disease of ‘Downy Mildews’ are great challenge for the grower.
